A lion in the Kitchen

My little lion has loved being in the kitchen “helping” or watching or simply being a part of the action nearly from his first day home. His love of the kitchen is so strong in fact, that cooking shows were the only thing that calmed/distracted him when he was a teething baby. Screaming, drooling, and tugging on his ears his little red face was streaked with tears – there I was offering ice chews, soother toys, extra nursing sessions, as much baby Tylenol as was safe; and still he screwed his face up in pain. That is until I gave up. I decided if I was going to have to stand in the middle of the room bouncing and bobbing a crying baby all day I might as well have on a show. I flipped on Iron Chef America, his little head spun around and watched with rapt attention. The crying died down as he watched the chef’s chopping, slicing, dicing, and fervently whipping up edible master pieces. That was it. Love at first sight I guess you could say.

My first born loves to cook, loves most foods, and prefers his plate to be filled with big flavors! Plain baby food? Nope! If you’re going to serve sweet potato’s -you’re best to sprinkle a curry blend over them and roast them until fork tender in the oven. Seared chicken breast? Not unless you smother it in spicy Italian marinara or a tikka masala gravy!

It comes as no surprise then, that my little lion loves not just helping in the kitchen – but loves to pretend our kitchen is the stage for a famous cooking show, or lately a delicious food truck (thank you Jon Favreau πŸ˜„). He’s quite the character, he loves trying new things, and I find that I love working side by side (or standing behind the camera) with him as he pretends we’re the latest show on food Network! I hope you all enjoy this silly little clip of my little lion in the kitchen.

From all of us here in the Wee Laird’s Kitchen – happy cooking!
